Portrait of Marc Pil

Marc Pil has been Managing Director of NDT since 2025, working closely with Artistic Director Emily Molnar on the company’s strategic direction. With more than twenty-five years of experience across the cultural sector, he has held a variety of roles as a director, lecturer, adviser, and supervisor. Through his work with governments, funding bodies, and cultural organisations in the performing arts and heritage sectors, he developed a strong sense of what allows organisations to truly thrive: clear structures, room for experimentation, financial stability, entrepreneurship, and attention to the people who shape them.

Before joining NDT, Pil was Managing Director of Jakop Ahlbom Company, Over het IJ Festival, and the Amsterdam Cabaret Festival. With a background in business administration, he also contributed to publications and policy reports exploring the relationship between art, management and society. In addition, he served as secretary to review committees for several national museums and taught museum management both in the Netherlands and internationally.

This broad experience has made him a strategic thinker and a natural connector between disciplines, people, and perspectives. At the same time, he strongly believes that a healthy organisation should support artistic freedom, development, and ambitious creation at every level.

At NDT, Pil is committed to building an organisation that is both resilient and adaptable, creating the right conditions for dance to continue developing and evolving. Central to this is the people within the company itself. He works towards an environment where there is space for growth, collaboration, and sustainable development, both on and off stage. For Pil, inclusion and sustainability are not separate themes, but an essential part of how NDT works and thinks. Guided by the belief that dance can move and connect people, regardless of background or experience, he helps shape an organisation that remains open, curious, innovative. Now and in the future.
