Sophie Whittome was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She trained in Vancouver, British Columbia at Arts Umbrella. After her training, she danced with Ballet BC from 2018 to 2020 and in 2020 joined NDT 2. In 2023, she moved to NDT 1, where she is now a member.

How and why did you become a professional dancer?
"Because I have a steady and inexplicable belief in dance. And because everything dances."
What is it about NDT that inspires/challenges/deepens your artistry?
"I am inspired by there being a group of people invested in the malleability and strength of one’s imagination… I am also inspired, always, by my colleagues."
