Liliana Barros

Choreographer

Portuguese-born Liliana Barros is an independent dancer and choreographer based in Germany. She graduated with a BA in Dance from CODARTS in the Netherlands and has danced professionally with companies including Compagnia Zappalà Danza, Pretty Ugly Tanz Köln under the direction of Amanda Miller, Saarländisches Staatsballett and Compagnie Marie Chouinard in Montréal.

She has performed both existing repertoire and new creations by choreographers including Marguerite Donlon, Amanda Miller, Roberto Zappalà, Itzik Galili, Stephan Thoss, Marco Goecke, Marie Chouinard, Kurt Jooss, Stijn Celis, Johan Inger, Jiří Kylián and Alexander Ekman. In 2011, Liliana received the Sponsor Club Preis for Best Dancer in recognition of her outstanding performance in Le Sacre du Printemps by Marguerite Donlon.

As an independent choreographer, Liliana has created commissioned works for companies including Nationaltheater Mannheim (GAIA, 2019), Saarländisches Staatsballett (My Name Is Legion, 2017), Staatstheater Braunschweig (Funkelfuchs, 2018), Gauthier Dance (In Tandem, 2021) and MiR Dance Company (Panorama, 2021). During the 2021–2022 season, she created new works for Dance Company Theater Osnabrück and NDT 2.

Her solo work NERVURE has received several awards and has been presented at numerous international festivals. Liliana has also received support from the state of Lower Saxony and several German foundations for her independent productions, including MEMORABILIA and her current production TECHNO FAUNA.

Her creation for NDT 2 during Up & Coming Choreographers in 2022 marks Liliana’s debut with the company.
