Stay home and keep on dancing

NDT at home

For everyone, these are complicated times. Life is slowing down worldwide in our collective effort to stay at home and practice social distancing. Performances and educational activities have been cancelled, but behind the scenes we are busy to provide you with (digital) alternatives for our art, so we can bring NDT to your living rooms!

With the free streaming series NDTV,  NDT released a new video from a NDT ballet from a renowned choreographer. Last weeks ballets of Edward Clug, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Hans van Manen, Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke and Medhi Walerski came past.

Also, we started an interview series with choreographers that are connected to NDT. This week: Franck Chartier

Short film: OUTSIDE-IN

In a world that feels otherworldly, we yearn for connection and collaboration, exploration and new ways to reveal ourselves to others. Touch has become a gesture of the past, yet in this digitally saturated world a longing for understanding and community is increasing in tangibility. ‘OUTSIDE-IN’ explores new ways to create intimacy and kinship through sharing the act of physical movement, even with those we never knew existed.

‘OUTSIDE-IN’ is created by a team of NDT members: film by Ennya Larmit, music by Niels Mudde (piano: Arion De Munck), sound design by Thijs Scheele, and performed by dancers Tess Voelker and Boston Gallacher.

Switch Streams

After the overwhelming success of Switch Streams’ first edition on April 16 the NDT dancers proudly present a second edition of the ON LINE programme with 14 new works created by 19 dancers of the company in their own homes.

Just like the first edition, Switch Stream Vol.2 is a full evening performance on Zoom, that is broadcast live on the NDT Facebook page on Saturday May 2 at 8 PM (CET). We welcome the audience 10 minutes before the show starts. The evening will again be hosted by NDT 1 dancer Roger Van der Poel.

Google Arts & Culture

In honor of its sixtieth anniversary, NDT has disclosed a large part of its archive on Google Arts & Culture. On Google Arts & Culture, NDT exhibits a selection of more than 3,000 digital archive items ranging from film clips and photography, posters and program books.

Go to the page ‘Six decades of NDT’ on our website, in which we take a look at our digital archive, and find our more about the history of the company, or bring a visit to our page at Google Arts & Culture.

Cancellation activities up to June 1st

We regret to inform you that NDT is forced to cancel all remaining activities up to June 1st, 2020 as a result of the updated measures taken by the National Government against the spread of the coronavirus. It concerns a part of the Dutch tour of Standalone by NDT 2 (March 13 – April 11) and the complete Dutch tour of Schmetterling by NDT 1 (May 1 – May 30). The theaters will keep you informed on all future developments, and ticket buyers will receive detailed information as soon as possible. Also the international tours and educational activities up to June 1st have been cancelled, including the school performances on April 6 and 7 and several workshops.

Want to stay informed? Keep an eye on our website and social media, or sign up for the NDT newsletter (in Dutch only).

Thank you for your understanding. We hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

Announcement new season postponed

Due to all corona developments, the planned announcement of season 2020-2021 on April 17, will be postponed. A new date will be announced later, just like the date for the presale for the Friends of NDT. Off course all these dates depend on future developments in the fight against the coronavirus.

'Keep your ticket, enjoy later'

NDT follows the national campaign ‘keep your ticket, enjoy later’, which on April 9 has been announced via the media. Because the corona crisis has an enormous financial impact, also for the cultural sector, there has been developed a regulation for this exceptional situation. There are three ways in which you can finish your ticket order:

  • Donate your tickets to NDT! Experience more as a Friend
Donate the purchase money of your tickets to NDT and we make you a Friend of the company, for two persons, during one year.
  • Voucher
Convert the purchase money of your tickets (incl. transaction costs) to a voucher. You can use this voucher for every performance in the Zuiderstrandtheater or the Nieuwe Kerk, untill July 31, 2021.
  • Refund
Receive the purchase money of your tickets (incl. transaction costs) back.

From the end of April, the box office of the Zuiderstrandtheater will contact visitors of the cancelled performances of Standalone and Schmetterling.
