Stay home and keep on dancing

NDT at home

For everyone, these are complicated times. Life is slowing down worldwide in our collective effort to stay at home and practice social distancing. Performances and educational activities have been cancelled, but behind the scenes we are busy to provide you with (digital) alternatives for our art, so we can bring NDT to your living rooms!

NDTV

With the free streaming series NDTV during the first lockdown in the spring of 2020,  NDT released a new video from a NDT ballet by a renowned choreographer every week. Ballets of Edward Clug, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Hans van Manen, Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke and Medhi Walerski came past. These ballets are no longer online.

On the occasion of their goodbye to NDT, Sol León and Paul Lightfoot made the new films She Remembers and Standby, watched by many of you.

Also, we presented a series of interviews with choreographers that are connected to NDT: Jiří Kylián, Hofesh Shechter, Franck Chartier, Marco Goecke, Edward Clug and Emily Molnar. It is still possible to watch these interviews!

Short film: OUTSIDE-IN

In a world that feels otherworldly, we yearn for connection and collaboration, exploration and new ways to reveal ourselves to others. Touch has become a gesture of the past, yet in this digitally saturated world a longing for understanding and community is increasing in tangibility. ‘OUTSIDE-IN’ explores new ways to create intimacy and kinship through sharing the act of physical movement, even with those we never knew existed.

‘OUTSIDE-IN’ is created by a team of NDT members: film by Ennya Larmit, music by Niels Mudde (piano: Arion De Munck), sound design by Thijs Scheele, and performed by dancers Tess Voelker and Boston Gallacher.

After the overwhelming success of Switch Streams’ first edition on April 16 the NDT dancers proudly presented a second edition of the online programme with 14 new works created by 19 dancers of the company in their own homes.

Just like the first edition, Switch Stream Vol.2 is a full evening performance on Zoom, which was broadcast live on the NDT Facebook page on Saturday May 2.
