In a close collaboration between NDT and Korzo, Up & Coming Choreographers offers talented, emerging makers the opportunity to create a work for the smaller stage. The project serves as a platform to support new voices, experimentation, and exchange. Up & Coming Choreographers concludes with performances in the intimate setting of the Korzo theatre in The Hague.

About the programme

Sofia Nappi is the Artistic Director and co-founder of dance company KOMOCO based in Italy. “Music, a strong emotion connected to a thought or a concept, a need to convey a message, and letting go into structured improvisation are the engines of my creative process,” says Nappi. Her first creations with KOMOCO won the Partner Introdans Award at the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition 2021, and won prizes at the prestigious 35th International Choreography Competition Hannover 2021.

Ella Rothschild is a choreographer and multidisciplinary artist. Since 2010, Rothschild has been creating her own works in collaboration with various artists from different disciplines. Rothschild received the Rosenblum Performing-Arts Award by the city of Tel-Aviv for promising creator of 2016, as well as the ministry of cultural award for 10 years of creation.
In 2020 Ella received a residency at Baryshnikov art centre (NYC) and was named artist in residence in the Suzanne Dellal Centre’s inaugural residency program where she created her work Pigulim. In 2021 Ella created a trilogy of artworks for the Batsheva Dance Company: Summer snow, on the edge of nowhere, and A Year Without Summer. In 2022-2023, Rothschild created Unpair and Milk Teeth, as part of Kammerballetten festival in Copenhagen. Her latest creation for Stravinsky iconic music Petrushka for the Royal Ballet of Flanders premiered on the past December.

Antonio de Rosa and Mattia Russo lead the Madrid-based Kor’sia collective as directors and choreographers, along with researcher and co-founder Giuseppe Dagostino and Professor of Performing Arts Agnès López-Río as artistic advisors. The project grew out of a desire to use the body as a means to transcend verbal communication. Kor’sia’s visionary creations include film, photography, literature and sculpture and invite the audience to immerse themselves in all-encompassing experiences. About their 2019 performance Siciliana, The Theatre Times wrote: “Kor’sia’s choreographers are masters at creating a rich visual effect full of movement complexity and polyphony through [the dancers’ bodies].”

Educational activities

Introduction talks

NDT organizes introduction talks prior to the performances of NDT 1 and NDT 2 in the Netherlands. The introduction talk takes 30 minutes and offers the opportunity the audience to meet our company on a personal level before the performance starts. Modern dance and the repertoire of NDT in particular are the focus of our introduction talks.

NDT Young Creatives

We started a new dance project for children between 8 and 14 years old: NDT Young Creatives. Dance experience is not required, but you do need enthousiasm to create and perform! Wondering if there will also be a workshop around this programme? Check it out via the link below.
