Isla Clarke

Dance for me is a necessity, a place of origin. A place where the contents of my body can seep out through my skin. I dance so that I can find salvation and possibly, freedom.

I’m a trans woman. There isn’t much space for us trans people in the world of dance, so in the meantime, I will dance for all of my trans siblings. I hope that trans people can occupy and influence any space we want to be in. Dance can be important and has the power to transcend ways in which we see the human body. My favorite thing to do is groove. I dream of dancing until I’m 100 years old. – Isla
