What dance means to me:
I believe dance is a universal language – especially in its purest and raw form – I’d like to think it’s possible to better understand other people and cultures through it. Passion is universal, a very easy thing to understand and therefore a good point to connect and start from. I have absolutely zero tolerance for internal politics or insincere intentions; I do, however, immensely enjoy silliness and clever jokes on and off stage, since this is how I get into the state of mind I want to be in when I perform.

My favourite memory at NDT:
My parents, partner and mother-in-law all came to watch The Hole in Amsterdam. I had never been this nervous before a show and so I have zero recollection of HOW I danced, like an out of body experience. It was a unique, personally very important evening and therefore the best memory I have on stage.

What I’d like the audience to take home after a show:
A friend of mine came to see Clowns (by Hofesh Shechter), and after leaving the theatre she danced and sang the whole way home. She was touched. THAT is what I hope the audience leaves with after experiencing an NDT performance. Whenever we truly enjoy what we do on stage, you, the audience, can feel it and give back an energy that fuels us. Thank you for that.

When not at work:
I love mountains, dogs (preferably above knee height), travelling (holidays in general), good food and movies that depict the martial arts. – Aram
