About the season
The new 2016/2017 NDT season promises great artistic diversity and special dance experiences which will lead our audience into the world of our colorful and groundbreaking company. NDT brings together the most talented dancers and choreographers worldwide and helps them grow to the highest possible level. The results of this fan out across the globe through successful performances and stunning choreography. Also in the upcoming season, NDT will grace the stage of leading theaters in New York, Vancouver, Budapest and Istanbul, and many others.
In season 2016/2017 we will present as many as eight world premieres including works by former NDT dancer Medhi Walerski but also Jiří Pokorný, Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, associate choreographers Marco Goecke and Crystal Pite, NDT resident choreographers Sol León and Paul Lightfoot, young choreographers and current NDT dancers Imre van Opstal and Marne van Opstal and NDT dancer Jianhui Wang. The latter will create a new piece for the programme Up & Coming Choreographers.
The public will be able to choose from a wide range of performances that also challenge the traditional theater space; Spiritwalking (2014) by Sol León and Paul Lightfoot will be performed in the Gasometer at the Westergasfabriekterrein in Amsterdam, accompanied live by the Ragazze Quartet. As part of the Jeroen Bosch year NDT 2 presents a triptych of pieces in an evening aptly titled Symbolen; all three works are centered around the theme of symbolism and are inspired to a greater or lesser extent by the work of the Dutch painter. For the second NDT program of the season heavyweight Marco Goecke is programmed alongside the young choreographers Imre van Opstal and Marne van Opstal, which promises to deliver an programme rich in contrasts and styles. Finally, NDT will devote an entire evening to the work of associate choreographer Crystal Pite who will be making a renewed version of her work Parade which will also partially include her latest creation NDT 1 The Statement.
