A warm welcome to Into the Hairy, the final NDT 1 programme of the 2024-2025 season! I am thrilled to close the season with this evocative work by longtime collaborators Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar.
As a house of creation, we are dedicated to research and artistic exchange, and Into the Hairy is a testament to that. The much-loved work was originally created in 2023 for 7 dancers, but Eyal felt that it deserved further exploration in collaboration with NDT. Tonight, you’ll experience 28 dancers from both Sharon Eyal Dance (S-E-D) and NDT 1 take the stage, showcasing how a multitude of voices can come together to inspire, exchange, and offer a new perspective to this captivating work.
Eyal is renowned for creating works with daring, visceral physicality that tap into the core of human emotion. Into the Hairy exemplifies this, enhanced by striking Dior costumes and an original soundtrack by composer Koreless. Deeply personal and transformative, the piece explores the darker aspects of the self. By blending classical ballet, contemporary dance, and underground club culture, Eyal crafts an enthralling, hypnotic universe.
