NDT 1-dancer Chloé Albaret and Marco Goecke's work 'The Big Crying' both nominated for a Zwaan 2019-2020 and 2020-2021

Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) is excited to announce that NDT 1 dancer Chloé Albaret has been nominated for a Zwaan for the ‘most impressive dance performance’ of the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons. The Big Crying by NDT’s associate choreographer Marco Goecke has also been nominated for the Zwaan for ‘best dance production’. Because the Zwanen were not awarded last year, the jury of the Vereniging van Schouwburg- en Concertgebouwdirecties (VSCD) selected contenders from the past two seasons. The winners will be announced on October 1st at the Het Nederlandse Dansdagen Gala in Maastricht.

In addition to the nominations for the Zwanen, the Nederlandse Dansdagen also announced the contenders for its own ‘Prize of the Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht’. Every year the festival calls on promising choreographers to be nominated and to give them the opportunity to create new and innovative work with this incentive prize of € 10,000. The result of this will premiere during the festival the following year.

In addition to Chloé Albaret, dancers Maria Ribas from ICK Dans Amsterdam, Anna Ol from the Dutch National Ballet, Karolina Szymura from De Châtel sur Place and Korzo, and Christian Yav and Sedrig Verwoert in a co-production with Korzo are also eligible for a Zwaan.

In addition to Marco Goecke’s The Big Crying, these works are also nominated for a Zwaan for best dance production: 8:Metamorphosis by NBProjects / Nicole Beutler, Or Die Trying by Stichting Backbone / Alida Dors, Memory Loss by Stichting WArd/waRD / Ann Van den Broek, and De Panter from Bird Productions in collaboration with Korzo/Dunja Jocic.

This year the Nederlandse Dansdagen will take place from September 30 to October 7. During the Nederlandse Dansdagen Gala on Friday 1 October, in addition to the two festival prizes and the Zwanen from the VSCD, the Golden Swan will also be awarded to a choreographer who has made a major contribution to Dutch dance.
