about the programme

Shadow’s Whispers combines creators who share an intuitive approach to ideas and expressing storylines.

Hofesh Shechter, one of the most exciting contemporary dance artists, recognized as both a choreographer and composer, will create a new piece for this programme. In 2016 Shechter made his first piece especially for NDT 1, Clowns, and in 2018 he created VLADIMIR, that cemented the maker’s organic and feverish movement language as part of the NDT repertoire.

After their NDT 2 premiere The Grey (2017) and their highly praised first piece for NDT 1 Take Root (2019), Imre van Opstal & Marne van Opstal are returning with another world premiere they will create for NDT 1. These emerging voices are exemplary of how NDT commits to young, boundary pushing makers, and how dancers can transition into the art of choreography.

In this programme

Hofesh Shechter – world premiere

Hofesh Shechter (Israel) is an Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells in London. In 2008, he founded the international touring Hofesh Shechter Company. In season 2013-2014, NDT 1 presented his work for the first time in the double bill Uprising/Your Rooms (2009). After that, he created Clowns (2016) and VLADIMIR (2018) for the company. Shechter will create a new piece for NDT 1 this season.

Imre van Opstal & Marne van Opstal – world premiere

Both former dancers with NDT, siblings Imre van Opstal and Marne van Opstal debuted as choreographer’s duo with their creation LiNK (2014) for Up & Coming Choreographers. Season 2016-2017 marked their choreographic debut for the regular programming of NDT 2 with The Grey (2017). After their highly praised first work for NDT 1, Take Root (2019), the duo will create a new work for NDT 1 this season.
