Rounding of our anniversary season and Paul Lightfoot’s tenure as Artistic Director, NDT presents Schmetterling. Just like a butterfly, this evening symbolizes the everlasting process of transformation; one of the most essential qualities of the house of NDT. The programme shows NDT’s house choreographers Sol León & Paul Lightfoot’s work Schmetterling (2010). The piece refers to the transience of existence and the way life and death constantly cross each other’s path and is set to the music of indie rock band Magnetic Fields and composer Max Richter. For Schmetterling, the duo will also create a new piece. The programme is joined by a world premiere from Damien Jalet, a new creative face to the company. The critically acclaimed works by Jalet are often visual stunning and thought provoking.

In this performance

SCHMETTERLING – SOL LEON & PAUL LIGHTFOOT

Schmetterling, meaning ‘butterfly’, suggests the transitional nature of existence and the continuous crossing of paths between life and death. Duets and trios echo all types of possible love stories to the music by indie rock band Magnetic Fields and their ’69 Love Songs’ as well as contemporary composer Max Richter.

Breathtaking portrayal of love.
