NEW CREATIONS BY NDT DANCERS

An annual favourite of ours is Switch: an evening entirely curated, produced, and choreographed by the dancers of NDT 1 and NDT 2. Switch began over 40 years ago, born from the need of the dancers to be creative and experimental, and to explore other aspects of their artistic identity. Over the years it has developed into a professionally produced and much-loved charity event in our home in The Hague. 

About the programme

Switch offers an opportunity for our talented dancers to give back, develop themselves, and connect with our audience on a more personal level. Aside from the magic that happens on stage, the charity of the dancers’ choice is supported through ticket sales, merchandise, silent auctions, and much more. The proceeds of past editions have gone to important charities such as COC Nederland, Doctors without Borders, and War Child.   

“To me, Switch is many things. Humbling in the way that we must learn exactly what it takes to organise an evening of dance and galvanising to the respect we have for colleagues who seamlessly manage these tasks every day. It’s connecting because we bundle our resources, time, and spirit, to nurture our collective creativity and celebrate the pursuit of something difficult and undefined.  Switch breaks up our rhythm as dancers at NDT and prompts us to reconsider the way of things, to gather as a community and look forward to future makers. Theatre is for me always a pleasure regardless of what I present or receive, but to make art for a beautiful charity with friends and to be moved by my friend’s art-—it is simply the best!”

Switch '25

“On behalf of the Switch team, I would like to thank all of you for making Switch’25 such a special and memorable edition.

I am very proud of what we have achieved with Switch’25: we produced and presented 14 original pieces, exploring new ideas and giving a platform to the creative voices of NDT. This year, we also strived to make Switch a more sustainable process, while welcoming a record-breaking number of guests in our home. 

 Throughout the process, we worked closely with this year’s chosen charity: Artsen Zonder Grenzen. It is now my pleasure to announce that we raised €42.500,- an incredible result that would not have been possible without your support and generosity.
