Begon bij NDT in 2016

Surimu Fukushi werd geboren in Tokio, Japan. Hij volgde zijn opleiding aan The Tokyo Ballet School en Ballet Studio DUO in Japan en was betrokken bij het jeugdproject Dance of Air van Saburo Teshigawara. Daarna vervolgde hij zijn klassieke opleiding aan de Académie Princesse Grace in Monaco, waarna hij danste bij Ballett Zürich.
In 2016 trad hij toe tot NDT 2. Sinds 2019 maakt hij deel uit van NDT 1. Gedurende zijn carrière werkte hij mee aan nieuwe creaties van choreografen als William Forsythe, Marco Goecke, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Crystal Pite, Gabriela Carrizo, Damien Jalet, Edward Clug, Alexander Ekman en Wayne McGregor.

Naast zijn werk als danser ontwikkelt Surimu zich ook als choreograaf, zowel binnen als buiten NDT. Tot zijn choreografische werken behoren:

Leer Surimu beter kennen

How did you become a professional dancer?
"I was dancing before I can even remember. “Apparently, I used to imitate Michael Jackson and practice figure skating moves at home on the tatami floor. That eventually led me to start ballet lessons, and I continued dancing.”

How does working at NDT deepen your artistry?

"In each process, we dive deep into different ways of dancing and creativity. We learn many things, and they stay with us in both body and mind."

How do you think art impacts your personal life, and the way you view the world?

“I think art can be questions and feelings. They make you open.”

What do you hope to bring to the audience as an artist?

“Present moment, memories and imaginations.”
