About the performance
In this first NDT 2 programme of the season, the young dancers are being put to the test to see how far their interpretation of both existing and new work can go. For Significant Moments, NDT welcomes back longtime friend to the company Alexander Ekman, an avid creator of dynamic, energetic pieces which are often infused with humor and large group work. Ekman will create a world premiere for the second company. We will also welcome a new face to NDT, Phillip Chbeeb, a young maker with a strong connection to hip-hop who, for this programme, is invited to create a new choreography with the dancers of NDT 2. To complete this triptych, NDT brings back a significant work by house choreographers Sol León and Paul Lightfoot. Signing Off (2003), originally created for NDT 1, marked a pivotal moment in the creators’ career and was awarded the prestigious Benois de la Danse.

"Duets that cause goosebumps and brilliantly timed male trios."

Signing Off
(2003) is a heart-rending ballet about saying goodbye, to the Concerto for violin and orchestra by Philip Glass. Pure expression and virtuosity, with flashing movements integrated into elegant long lines. The set is part of the cast and provides a terrifyingly beautiful closing image, in which two female dancers are swallowed up by billowing black silk sheets.

FIT (world premiere) - Alexander Ekman
After a dance career with the Royal Swedish Ballet, the Cullberg Ballet and NDT 2, Alexander Ekman (Sweden) decided to solely focus on choreography. For NDT Ekman created Cacti (2010), as well as Left Right Left Right (2012), Maybe Two (2013), and Definitely Two (2013). NDT welcomes back Ekman to create with the company for the first time in five years.

The Reunion of I (world premiere) - Phillip Chbeeb
As a choreographer and freestyler Phillip Chbeeb (United States) has collaborated with numerous American celebrities. Chbeeb performed in various TV shows, such as So You Think You Can Dance and MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew. He also danced and choreographed for a wide array of films and videoclips, all expressing his true passion for the art of Hip Hop. This season, Chbeeb will work with NDT for the very first time.
