NDT focuses on live streams

Update NDT performances after press conference Tuesday, October 13

After the announced measures by the Dutch government to combat COVID-19 on October 13, Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) has decided that the performances on November 6, 7 and 8 in the Zuiderstrandtheater in The Hague of the NDT 2 program Dare to Say will exclusively be presented via live streams.*

NDT’s two-track strategy of presenting both physical performances as well as live streams as was presented during the NDT 1 program Endlessly Free that opened the season on September 17, has shown to be a great success. However, following the new measure that dictates that only 30 people are allowed per venue, NDT has decided to cancel the physical performances until November 12 and present them exclusively via live streams.

The live stream has proven to be an excellent alternative in this unprecedented time. In the context of the new measures, NDT is therefore pleased to be able to offer its performances digitally. With intimate and accurate camera work, the company aspires to provide its audience with a virtual experience that brings NDT creations closer to the viewer. The previous series of live streams around NDT 1’s Endlessly Free program reached audiences in over 38 countries around the world. The national and international press praised the approach as well. For example, following the Endlessly Free Livestream on September 17, the Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote:

“Until now, the credo has been: theater and dance must be experienced in real time. Everything else is simply a cheesy substitute. Endlessly Free proves the opposite, not in the least because of the professionally filmed format.”

At this time, no statement can yet be made about the Dare to Say touring program in various Dutch theaters from 12 November on.

*In the upcoming days, ticket buyers of the performances in the Zuiderstrandtheater on November 6, 7 and 8 will be contacted by the theater about refund possibilities.
