Important message

15 April 2020

Dear reader, dear audience

We hope this message finds you safe and in good health.

As we watched the events surrounding COVID-19 unfold, Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) was faced with the difficult decision to adjust the latter part of the season due to the necessary social distancing measures. We cancelled the remaining performances of the NDT 2 programme “Standalone” and were obliged to forego the entire run of the NDT 1 programme “Schmetterling” which was set to premiere on May 1, 2020. We remain hopeful that NDT might still be able to round off our 60th anniversary season in the months of June and July in some creative way if at all possible.

Nobody could have foreseen, nor imagined these unprecedented circumstances during our 60th anniversary season. However, our main priority remains the health and safety of our dancers, staff members, and you, our audiences too, as we navigate our way through these uncharted waters.

As a vibrant dance company we know that the live experience of a performance can never be duplicated, and even though we all yearn to return to the studio and to share our art with the world, we pledge ourselves to keeping you inspired, engaged and informed.

Our digital developments behind the scenes have not ceased, as our new website and lay-out can attest to! In addition to this, our dancers, artistic staff and the many teams all involved behind the scenes do everything they can to offer you our creativity, rich repertoire of NDT, and the many fascinating stories held within, through our various online channels.

We are indebted to you for the tremendous support and understanding which we have received continuously over the past weeks in light of these exceptional times. Thank you so much! Despite its limitations, we remain excited about the beautiful exchanges we nurture through the various channels technology allows.

Love,
Willemijn and Paul.
