On Friday January 7, we welcome you in NDT’s digital theater for the stream of the NDT 1 program Mist. Make sure you are well prepared:

  • Be ready on time to not miss anything of the performance. You are welcome to open the stream between 11.15 AM and 12 PM, the actual performance starts at 12 PM (CET) and lasts approximately 70 minutes.
  • Scroll down for more information about the performance and practical info about the streams. 
  • Mist was originally intended to be viewed on a large theatre screen, so to increase the visual and immersive experience at home, we reccomend watching the film on the largest available high definition screen, preferably in a dark place and with headphones or a good sound system.

Performance times and duration

We love to welcome you at the broadcast between 11.15 AM and 12 PM. There is no video image visible yet, but a screen with programme information. You can use this time to test your connection and equipment, and possibly cast it to the TV. Make sure you prepare on time and check your equipment well in advance so you don’t miss out on the performance. The actual performance starts at 12.00 PM (CET) and lasts approximately for 70 minutes.

After the performance ends, it is no longer available.

FAQ

I can't find my unique access link. What can I do?

After your payment you will receive a unique link in the email address you used. Perhaps the mail ended up in your spam box, you can search the subject of the confirmation mail, it starts with: 'Please, your unique link for...'. Can't find the link? Send a mail to info@ndt.nl.

Can I cast the video to my TV screen?

Yes, that is possible. Check this link (in Dutch) for an instruction.

Please note: it is not possible to cast from your iPhone or iPad to a Google Chromecast.  Instead, use your laptop or PC, open the Google Chrome browser and the live stream page / link. Then cast your browser tab to your Chromecast by clicking on the menu in the browser (3 dots) and click on 'cast'. Read more instructions here (english)

I don't see anything on the live stream or the live stream seems to have see stopped. What can I do?

In most of the cases, it will help te refresh the webpage in your browser. You can do so by clicking on F5 (Windows) on your keyboard, or  Command ⌘ + R (Mac) . Or use the icon that is visible in the browser (arrow) to refresh. Then click on the 'start stream' button again and the click the 'playbutton'.

If this doesn't work, please check the following steps:

  • Please check if you use the correct link for access to the live stream
  • Check your internet connection (if you can, use a wired internet connection)
  • Check if your browser has had  recent update.
  • Check if cookies in your browser are enabled.
  • Check if the batteries of your device are fully loaded.

Can I chat with the help desk or otherwise ask for help if something goes wrong?

During a livestream, our online help desk is available to you via the chat in Digital Theater. Open the chat via the icon at the bottom right. It is also possible to receive help directly via an email to info@ndt.nl.

Is it possible to change devices during the stream?

You can, but switching devices during the live stream is not recommended. We cannot guarantee that the stream will continue to work.

About 'Mist'

Mist is a multidisciplinary dance film created by the Franco-Belgian choreographer Damien Jalet (1976) and filmed by Rahi Rezvani, inspired by the phenomenon of fog banks that are often associated with the Netherlands. The presence of wind and sea and the fact that a third of the Netherlands is below sea level served as some of the main sources of inspiration for the Jalet.

Mist is part of a three project collaboration between Jalet and Japanese visual artist Kohei Nawa, following their critically acclaimed pieces VESSEL and PLANET [wanderer]. The work explores the ephemeral space between reality and mirage, and a physicality that recalls the dynamics of evaporating, condensing and falling water. For this creation, Jalet is also collaborating with choreographer Aimilios Arapoglou, composer Fennesz, lighting designer Urs Schonebaum, costume designer Sruli Recht and photographer and videographer Rahi Rezvani.

Damien Jalet

Concept / Choreographer / Film director

The work by the French-Belgian choreographer Damien Jalet is presented all over the world. In his collaborative work, Jalet combines different media including visual arts, music, film, theater and fashion. He has worked as a choreographer and dancer for companies such as Ballet C. de la B., Sasha Waltz and guests, Chunky Move, Eastman, NYDC, Hessiches Staatballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Scottish Dance Theatre, Icelandic Dance Company, Gothenburg Dance company. In 2017, he was Artistic Director of the UK National Youth Dance Company, for which he created tarantiseismic, which premiered in Sadler’s Wells. Since 2017, Jalet has also been a resident artist at Theater National de Bretagne (TNB) under the direction of Arthur Nauzyciel. He choreographed for the film Suspiria directed by Luca Guadagnino, starring Tilda Swinton, Jessica Harper, Ingrid Caven with an original score by Thom Yorke. In February 2018 he directed his first opera Pelleas en Melissande together with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui with a set by Marina Abramovic, costumes by Iris Van Herpen and videos by Marco Brambilla at the Antwerp Opera. Damien Jalet was named a Knight of the Arts and Letters by the French government in 2013.

KOHEI NAWA
Concept / Set Design

Kohei Nawa is a multidisciplinary artist whose diverse practice explores the perception of virtual and physical space and examines the relationship between nature and artificiality, and between the individual and the whole, illustrating how parts aggregate together, like cells, to create complex and dynamic structures. Notable solo exhibitions include: L_B_S at Ginza Maison Hermes, Tokyo (2009); Synthesis at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2011); SCULPTURE GARDEN at Kirishima Open-air Art Museum, Kagoshima, (2013); and Throne on view as part of the Japonisms 2018: les âmes en resonance at the Musée du Louvre, Paris (2018). He has participated in the 6th Asia Pacific Triennial in Brisbane, Australia, 2009; the 14th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh in Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2010 (Grand Prize winner); Aichi Triennale in Nagoya, Japan, 2013, amongst others. Nawa is currently an Associate Professor at the Kyoto University of Art and Design. Mist is Nawa’s third creation with Damien Jalet, following VESSEL and PLANET (wanderer).

Rahi Rezvani

Executive Film Director / Cinematography

Rahi Rezvani was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design from Tehran University of Art, and in 2008 a Master’s degree in photography from The Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Rezvani started working with Nederlands Dans Theater in 2006 and is since the company’s resident photographer. He has collaborated with performance artist Marina Abramović, Atelier Versace, and photographed various artists and designers such as Donatella Versace for 1843 magazine and GQ Magazine UK, Gucci designer Alessandro Michele, Ricardo Tisci and Willem Dafoe. Rezvani captured the imagery and portraiture for the Royal Ballet Flanders’ 2018 reincarnation of Claude Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande by Damien Jalet and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. The production included sets by Abramović and costumes by Iris van Herpen. Rezvani won the Best Art Vinyl award for Editors’ 2018 album Violence.

AIMILIOS ARAPOGLOU
Associate choreographer

Aimilios Arapoglou is a Greek dancer, choreographer and a long-time collaborator of Damien Jalet, who has been creating and performing work professionally worldwide since 2011. He is a graduate of both the International and European Relations program at the University of Piraeus and the Greek National State School of Dance. Now Brussels based, Aimilios has worked with many talented artists, including Linda Kapetanea and Josef Frucek (Rootlessroot Dance Company), in collaboration with the musician John Parish and his band, David Zambrano, Damien Jalet, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Scottish Dance Theatre, Mor Shani, Jukstapoz Dance Company and fashion designers Hussein Chalayan, Riccardo Tisci and Iris van Herpen.

CHRISTIAN FENNESZ
Music

Christian Fennesz is an Austrian producer and guitarist active in electronic music since the 1990s, often credited simply by his last name. His work utilizes guitar and laptop computers to blend melody with treated samples and glitch production. He lives and works in Vienna, and currently records on the UK label Touch. Fennesz first received widespread recognition for his 2001 album Endless Summer, released on the Austrian label Mego. He has collaborated with a number of artists, including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Jim O’Rourke, Ulver, David Sylvian, and King Midas Sound.

URS SCHÖNEBAUM
Light

After training as a photographer in Munich, Urs Schönebaum worked in the lighting department of the Münchner Kammerspiele from 1995 to 1998. After assistant directorships at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Lincoln Center New York and the Münchner Kammerspiele, he began working as a lighting designer for opera, theatre, dance, art installations and performances in 2000. He has worked in over 150 productions at major theatres and festivals, including the Royal Opera House, the Bolshoi Theatre, and the Metropolitan Opera, as well as at Salzburg Festival, and the festival d’Aix-en-Provence, and has collaborated – among others – with Thomas Ostermeier, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Damien Jalet, Sasha Waltz, Vanessa Beecroft, Anselm Kiefer, Dan Graham and Marina Abramović, and was a long-time employee of Robert Wilson.

SRULI RECHT
Costumes

Sruli Recht is a designer and artist. He was born in Jerusalem, Israel and holds Australian and Icelandic citizenship. Recht studied Fashion Design at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia but left for London in 2005 where he worked with British designer Alexander McQueen. Recht’s work is considered to be innovative in its use of indigenous, new and unconventional materials and technologies though also seen by many to be controversial due to the use of materials such as minke whale foreskin, spider silk, seal and human skin. Although he is known mostly as a fashion designer, some garments and show pieces from his seasonal collections are seen to blur the relationships between art, design and fashion.
