21 Apr 2011

The ballet Plot Point by Nederlands Dans Theater’s associate choreographer Crystal Pite has been nominated for the major international Benois de la Danse dance award. Pite created this choreography for Nederlands Dans Theater I in April 2010. The jury announced the nomination during a press conference in Moscow, where it is based. The Benois de la Danse award 2011 is set to be presented on 24 May during a benefit gala at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre.

Introduced by Moscow’s International Dance Association in 1991, the Benois de la Danse (the ‘Academy Award of the Dance World’) is awarded for exceptional achievements in dance during the previous year to choreographers, dancers, composers and designers. Previous Benois de la Danse winners include Ji??í Kylián, William Forsythe, Lightfoot León, Sylvie Guillem, Hans van Manen and Mats Ek.

The jury of the 2011 Benois de la Danse award includes Yuri Grigorovich (chairman), José Antonio, Davide Bombana, Philippe Cohen, Krzysztof Pastor, Pedro Pablo Peña, Sergey Filin and Ying Feng.

Plot Point was Crystal Pite’s fourth ballet for Nederlands Dans Theater I; her previous works include Pilot X, The Second Person and Frontier. Pite’s next work, which will be featured in Nederlands Dans Theater I’s ‘Traces’ programme, will premiere on 9 February 2012.
