NDT PERFORMANCES TO BE SHOWN LIVE AROUND THE WORLD IN OVER 600 CINEMAS
Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) and Pathé Live have announced plans to present a full season of NDT Live performances in over 500 cinemas around the world. Following the successful screening of the NDT's Move to Move in cinemas earlier this year, an entire NDT Live season will kick-off on November 15, with a live screening of NDT’s Programme II in over 200 cinemas worldwide, followed by a further 450 cinemas showing the recorded performance in the second half of November. The start of the project will see a special celebration in NDT’s hometown The Hague (the Netherlands), where the live screening is attended by dancers, friends and special guests of the dance company. As well as the Netherlands, the rest of this season's NDT performances, Programme II, III, VI (NDT 1) and Programme B (NDT 2) will be screened internationally in cinemas in countries including the UK, USA, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Austria and Sweden.
Through this collaboration with Pathé Live, NDT is hoping to broaden its public outreach and make modern dance more accessible to new audiences. Thanks to innovative new technology, viewers will be able to experience the NDT's extraordinary dancers like never before, with seven HD cameras capturing every expression with exceptional clarity.
NDT is the first modern dance company in the world to land a deal with Pathé Live. Up until now, Pathé Live had been working with the biggest names in the world of opera and dance, such as The Metropolitan Opera and The Bolshoi Ballet, whose performances are also shown on the big screen.
Robert van Leer, Managing Director of NDT: “The collaboration with Pathé Live offers NDT the unique chance to bring its performances to new audiences all around the world. For the first time, we will be able to show audiences every movement and facial expression in extreme close-up. The camera brings a whole new dimension to the viewing experience: a new, more personal way of experiencing dance.”
Pathé Live gathers a network of almost 1000 cinemas and is the European leader in the distribution of alternative programming to cinema audiences, including operas, concerts and other cultural screenings. Thierry Fontaine, General Manager of Pathé Live (France): “Pathé Live is extremely proud and honoured to broadcast NDT performances live in cinemas around the world. NDT’s choreographies are daring, original, ever-changing, penetrating, funny and visually irresistible. Therefore, we are convinced that the talent of the amazing dancers and choreographers of this company will be discovered and embraced by a broad, international audience.”
