2012 Dutch Swan Award nominees at Nederlands Dans Theater
NDT dancer Myrthe van Opstal and Goecke’s ballet Garbo Laughs nominated
The Dance Jury of the VSCD (Society of Theatre and Concert Hall Boards) has nominated Myrthe van Opstal for the Swan Award for the ‘most impressive dance performance 2012’. Garbo Laughs by Marco Goecke has been nominated for the Swan Award for the ‘most impressive dance production’. The Dutch Swan Awards will be presented on 6 October 2012 at the Dutch Dance Celebration during the Dutch Dance Festival in Maastricht.
The VSCD (Society of Theatre and Concert Hall Boards) Dance Jury nominated NDT dancer Myrthe van Opstal for her role in Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen by Jiři Kylián. The VSCD Dance Jury says the following about Myrthe van Opstal: ‘She knows what and why she is dancing, and she dances her interpretation with inner conviction. Her “signature” is already remarkably mature: clear, precise and musical. She has everything it takes to grow into a true dance artist.’
The VSCD Dance Jury furthermore nominated the Garbo Laughs ballet, which was created by choreographer Marco Goecke and performed by NDT, for the Swan for the ‘most impressive dance production’. The VSCD Dance Jury says the following: ‘Garbo Laughs is a strong and excellently well thought-out choreography. The mix of classical and modern dance, the clear design and the outstanding performance of the dancers combine to create a beautiful and multi-faceted work of art.’
Alongside Garbo Laughs, Mono by Itamar Serussi Sahar (Danshuis Station Zuid) and Rocco by Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten (ICKamsterdam) have been nominated for the Dutch Swan for the ‘most impressive dance production 2012’. In addition to Myrthe van Opstal, Christian Guerematchi, Genevieve Osborne and Matthew Golding have been nominated for the Dutch Swan for the ‘most impressive dance performance 2012’ for their roles in respectively Rocco by Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, Mono by Itamar Serussi Sahar and Short Time Together by Sol Léon and Paul Lightfoot.
The VSCD presents the Dutch Swans for the best production and best dance performance each season. The 2012 VSCD Dance Jury is comprised of Lucia Claus (chairperson), Karin Schnabel, Tim Persent, Hildegard Draaijer, Benjamin Koolstra, Francine van der Wiel, Anita van Dolen and Ingrid Scheper.
