‘Move in’ Nederlands Dans Theater invites 1600 schoolchildren from The Hague
About 1600 children (9-11 years old) from The Hague primary schools participated in the educational dance project ‘Nederlands Dans Theater 2 Danst' organized by 'Move in' Nederlands Dans Theater in collaboration with het Koorenhuis. A unique part of this project was the attending of a dance performance at April 23rd or 24th 2012. The dancers of NDT 2 entered the stage of het Lucent Danstheater, to show to the children what modern dance is.
Preliminary
Prior to visiting the performance, the children participated in dance workshops at their schools. These were specially developed by ‘Move in’ Nederlands Dans Theater and taught by our dance teachers. During the workshops the children experienced what it takes, to dance like the dancers of NDT 2. In the week before the school visit to the performance, a class representative from each class and school was invited to take a peek behind the scenes of our company. Afterwards they reported to their classmates what they had discovered and learned. What happens in a dance studio? How does a choreographer work with the dancers on a new choreography? How difficult are the movements the dancers have to make?
The teachers at each school received a specially developed guideline to prepare the content of the project in the classroom.
Presentation Program
On April 23rd and 24th 2012, the young viewers were treated with a selection from the repertoire of NDT 2. NDT works from the vision that if dance is of a high standard, it is suitable for any age. The show lasted 60 minutes and was performed four times for a total of 1600 students. In the first part the students experienced a piece from I new then by choreographer Johan Inger, made for nine dancers to music by Van Morrison. After a spectacular intermission, that was made possible by the stage technicians, it was time for Minus 16 by the Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin. Minus 16 was danced by all dancers from NDT 2 on a spectacular musical collage. Some children from the audience even got a chance to show their own moves on stage!
