Shutters Shut

Shutters Shut (2003) is a special dance, four minutes in which the dancers in their own sign language communicate the words of Gertrude Stein, who gives an original recitation of her poem ‘If I told him’.  As an audience you simply become part of the whole. It is precisely the unusualness of spoken word instead of music that makes the piece interesting. The sign language perceptibly blends with the poem and you will be swept along in its beauty.

‘…For four minutes splendid words hammer a splendid rhythm playing with time and confusion’ (De Volkskrant, maart 2003).
